Abstract
Background & Purpose: Economic sanctions, as one of the fundamental challenges facing countries, especially in societies that are highly dependent on external resources, have widespread effects on economic, social, and organizational sustainability. In such circumstances, resilience, as a strategic capability, provides the possibility of adaptability and maintaining stability for organizations and economic institutions. The aim of this research is to design and explain the resilience model in conditions of economic sanctions.
Methodology: The research type is applied in terms of purpose and descriptive-exploratory in nature with a mixed approach. The statistical population of the qualitative part of the research included 25 academic experts and business managers of the polyethylene industrial cluster, who were selected using a non-random snowball method. The statistical population of the quantitative part included 162 managers and experts of the Kermanshah polyethylene industrial cluster, who were selected using a stratified random method. The data collection tool in the qualitative part was semi-structured interviews, and in the quantitative part, a researcher-made questionnaire. The content analysis method was used to analyze the data in the qualitative part, and the structural equation model was used in the quantitative part.
Findings: The qualitative findings indicated the identification of 23 basic themes, 8 organizing themes (linkage, financial agility, organicization, collective sensemaking, aggressiveness, observation room, organizational learning, self-adaptation), and one overarching theme (business resilience). The results of confirmatory factor analysis also indicated the confirmation of all research themes and the appropriate fit of the final model.
Conclusion: Resilience in the face of economic sanctions, as one of the vital requirements of organizations and economic institutions, requires the development and implementation of a comprehensive and coherent model. Implementing the research model can help managers provide effective solutions to maintain sustainability and improve organizational performance in crisis situations.
