Abstract
Background & Purpose: Managing the obstacles of virtual teams has become one of the important issues. Virtual teams include groups of people who work remotely in different time zones and different cultures. Despite having various advantages, these teams face certain obstacles. Based on this, The present study develops an operational model for the challenges of human resource management in virtual teams with a mixed approach.
Methodology: This research has a mixed approach. In the qualitative part, the theme analysis strategy was used, and in the quantitative part, the descriptive survey strategy was used. The statistical population of the research included eighteen experts who were selected in a targeted way. Data collection was done using semi-structured interviews. The analysis of research data was done by coding method. The statistical population of the quantitative part of the research included 1000 employees of companies with this type of team, of which 278 were determined as a statistical sample using the Morgan table. Research data was collected through a questionnaire. Structural equation modeling was also used for data analysis.
Findings: Based on the analysis of research data, the challenges of human resource management of virtual teams included motivational barriers, cultural barriers, and awareness and training barriers. Also, the analysis of quantitative data indicated a good fit of the model in the qualitative section.
Conclusion: To overcome the obstacles of virtual teams, it is necessary to apply efficient strategies in technology management, strengthen communication abilities and create an environment based on trust. Using appropriate digital tools and strengthening cross-cultural interactions can help improve the performance and solidarity of virtual teams.
