Abstract
Background&Purpose:This study conducts a comparative analysis of the capacities and capabilities of science, technology, and innovation centers in selected universities and armed forces in Iran and around the world, with the aim of benchmarking for Iran’s defense organizations. The main objective of the research is to design a business model canvas to improve the structures and processes of innovation within Iran’s defense sector.
Methodology:The study has been carried out within the framework of interpretive philosophy and an inductive approach. Using thematic analysis, the research extracts a business model pattern for defense innovation centers. Data were collected through purposive and judgmental sampling from online documents of military innovation centers and other organizations, registered official reports, and semi-structured telephone interviews with senior managers of selected science and technology parks. The collected data were analyzed and reported using the thematic analysis method.
Findings:The findings of the study, derived from integrating business model canvases extracted from interviews and online resources of selected global military organizations, led to the development of a business model canvas for defense innovation centers. This model, by utilizing successful global and domestic experiences, can contribute to enhancing defense innovation capabilities and strengthening inter-organizational interactions.
Conclusion:The study indicates that managers of defense organizations should implement the proposed business model canvas for defense innovation centers in order to strengthen inter-organizational collaboration and foster connections with science and technology parks.By transferring global best practices and supporting domestic innovations, this model can enhance innovation capacities and contribute to improving the overall defense capabilities of the nation.
